Plugged In: The Shinnecock Monument
The Shinnecock Monument is an economic development project launched in early May 2019. The Shinnecock Nation’s goal with this project is to generate revenue to provide for its people. Being a sovereign nation, The Shinnecock Nation maintains the right to build on its land and pursue commerce free from civil regulatory restrictions improperly imposed by New York State.

Jeremy Dennis, an artist and photographer from the Shinnecock Indian Reservation presents the Settlement digital occupation work Plugged In: The Shinnecock Monument as a creative imagination of what an artist might present to local non-indigenous residents if given free control of the Shinnecock Monument. Located on the Hamptons of Eastern Long Island, the Shinnecock Indian Nation is often overlooked and marginalized - even by neighboring residents who live in the area year-round. The monument became a symbol of our continued presence with the Shinnecock tribal seal at the top. The video piece goes further to illustrate who we are and our continued presence in a "mini-takeover."
